As to Bucky; he's so absorbed in self-hatred for what he's done, there's no way that Steve finding out about it is not his absolute worst case scenario. (And - staying vague so I don't spoil you - if you read the prompt you know it probably won't/wouldn't go well indeed. At first. Or at all.)
Thinking about Bucky preferring literally anything to Steve seeing him the way he sees himself makes my inner angsty teen do backflips.
