'Flounce' is not some cunning new insults I've made up - it's a common term for a very specific behaviour wherein someone who's been involved in online wank makes a melodramatic ~goodbye cruel world~ post about how they're leaving forever because you big pack of meanies wouldn't give me what I wanted and look, aren't you all sorry now? For examples of a flounce post, you can look through Google or just browse upthread a bit. Scout's honour, I have never once used the word to refer to someone quietly leaving a discussion they got tired of and I'm not about to start now.

As an author, I write for comments, 100%. English isn't my first language, and writing even a short paragraph takes a lot of time and effort. 500 words can take me several days to write. When people don't comment on my fics, I worry my prose isn't up to the standards set by native speakers. I spent hours on something, prioritised it over other things I could have been doing with my time, and nobody cared. That hurts.

I practise the belief that if an author made me read all the way to the end of their story, they deserve a comment. Even if it's not my kink, even if the writing isn't Penguin Classics-level, they managed to keep my interest piqued, and that deserves a nod of approval.

I like the posts on tumblr reminding people to comment, and I thought your reminder here was good too, especially since we can't leave likes or kudos on fics. I'm not sure why this makes people mad.
