garbage all the way down ([personal profile] trashmod) wrote in [community profile] hydratrashmeme2014-11-15 10:27 am

Chatter post

For all your discussion needs.

Ground rules:
- Try to keep it loosely trash party related, or at least Cap fandom related.
- Disagreement is fine, nastiness is not.
- Being offended is not carte blanche for nastiness.
- Trashmeme ground rules apply. Read at your own risk, no romanticizing your noncon garbage, no wank about the moral acceptability of noncon kink.
- Body shots, sniper shots, and tetanus shots are all available at the open bar. Party like it's 2014, kids.

So has anybody owned up to their trashmeme fics in public?

I'm thinking about owning up to at least one of mine, and the funny thing is that the only reason I'm hesitating is that I don't want to be known as THAT PERSON WHO WRITES ANGSTY FUCK-OR-DIE FIC FOR LITERALLY EVERY FANDOM SHE JOINS EVER.

But I kind of am that person, so IDK. Maybe I should just own it.

OP

Oh hell no, I don't even admit to fanficcing IRL outside of a few people who do the same. But my AO3 page is like 'Sam/Dean sex pollen noncon! Erik/Charles Tragic Past noncon! Etc!'

So I almost posted under my fandom name and then I was like.

do i really want to be that person.

I mean, I do most of my writing in Supernatural fandom, you'd think that would have killed my shame, but nope.

I dithered about this forever--I already had one noncon fic up in this fandom, so I kept all my trashmeme fic strictly anon for fear of becoming THAT PERSON WHO ONLY WRITES ONE THING OVER AND OVER. And then the "Steve gets gang-raped by his own STRIKE team + the Winter Soldier" fic happened, and I decided, fuck it, I want credit for the sheer over-the-top trashiness of this monstrosity. And most of my trashmeme fills since then have been un-anon, and I've gone back and owned up to a couple of old ones too.

And let me tell you a secret: being THAT PERSON WHO KEEPS WRITING THE THING is awesome. Especially if The Thing is a trope that scratches a lot of people's ids (and fuck-or-die is like... the prototypical id-scratching trope) and you can write it while keeping the main cast reasonably in-character. Authors who can do that on a regular basis are precious treasures to fandom. Honestly, if it's one thing that keeps slipping in amidst a variety of fic, the worst that'll happen is that people who aren't into it will sigh and skip over it. The best that'll happen is people like it, hope you'll write more of it, develop faith in your ability to pull it off, and pass along stuff they know will probably hit your kinks.

Anecdotally, the response to me de-anoning on my shamefic has been overwhelming and 100% positive, aside from a grand total of one rude anti-noncon Tumblr anon. And I'm incredibly, embarrassingly blatant about all my Cap fic being filthyhot noncon Steve!whump. (Also anecdotally, based on my experience as a part-time judgemental asshole in an incredibly wanky and judgemental fandom, people will only judge you for repeating the same porn tropes over and over if you're cranking out badfic that twists the characters to fit your generic porn-trope clichés.)

I haven't written anything for this meme yet. I just leave prompts. And I did the 50 Shades crack vid but I might want to redo that with a clean copy of the movie. So there's no real r eason to de-anon. Although I don't know why I'm worried about losing the respect of my friends, it's not like most of them actually read my stuff anyway. And I think my current series has already done that job.

My roommates used to be the only ones who knew. Then someone at work had to use my phone and I kind of forgot that email notifications were still on and they kind of saw "Dog fuck rape world" flash through :D :D :D Luckily I convinced them it was spam.

I post my stuff on AO3. I also let my grandmother read one of my more innocent stories, and then when she asked if I had any others, I had to explain to her why it would be a bad idea to read my other work, which in turn led to an explanation of what the trash party was.

Grandmas was actually pretty cool with it.

i've owned up to all but....one of mine? I think? And I can't remember I didn't now, and I can't find it anyways. But yeah I was a bit iffy at first, expecially considering I'd only had like 6 fics on my AO3 account (and now I have 14, the bulk of which being trash) but then I sorta just
/shrugs/ and did it

I've posted all the ones I've written so far on my ao3 account, which I suppose counts as public! Amusingly, in RL, most of my coworkers are aware that I write for fun, and often ask me what I'm currently writing about. I usually just say "Sadness."
