Chatter post

For all your discussion needs.

Ground rules:
- Try to keep it loosely trash party related, or at least Cap fandom related.
- Disagreement is fine, nastiness is not.
- Being offended is not carte blanche for nastiness.
- Trashmeme ground rules apply. Read at your own risk, no romanticizing your noncon garbage, no wank about the moral acceptability of noncon kink.
- Body shots, sniper shots, and tetanus shots are all available at the open bar. Party like it's 2014, kids.

DA

How do you know that the prompts were posted by a bunch of different people who had been here forever? LOL. I find it REALLY interesting that more than a dozen new prompts all in the very specific non-sexual body horror vein were all posted within the space of a day when for months there's maybe been one or two new prompts a day, if any at all. It was like a tsunami wave after the barest trickle. So yeah, it feels a lot more likely that a few newbies inundated the thread with the HTP-adjacent prompts rather than a bunch of old hat HTPers all got to jonesing for some straight-up body horror at exactly the same time. Just saying.

Regardless, it's clearly about the sudden volume of prompts with this theme and I'm not sure why that's so hard to understand.

I'm not gonna get started on the whole conspiracy theory of one person being responsible for all that but. What is hard to understand is
1. People complaining about an increase in activity with prompts that might not necessarily be exactly what they're looking for, but technically don't break any rules. All the frozen prompts were HYDRA/CATWS related, non-AU, no evilgoodguys, no fluff, and they requested a high level of distressing graphic content. So while they might not be a crowd favourite, they didn't break any of the rules outlined in 'what's not on topic'. So why not let them be and move on? No one's forcing anyone to fill or read anything they don't like.
2. Select few people framing this as some sort of 'new vs. old' discussion. Not only does this approach make the entire community feel self-absorbed at best and extremely unfriendly and unlikeable at worst, but it's also hard to take seriously as this is an internet kink meme. Yes, there is a tremendous amount of skill and creativity in the content created here, but still, it's superhero fanfiction. Getting old high and mighty about the 'good old days' like you're a rich old man in a three piece suit smoking a cigar and complaining about young whippersnappers being out of line, or a feudal lord mildly inconvenienced by revolting peasants is just. Not only conceited and unfriendly but also kind of laughable. And I really don't get why people on here would want to create this kind of impression.

not really gonna touch on #1 because i feel like by now trashmod has explained their reasoning pretty thoroughly, but to your point #2: come on. it wasn't about framing the old guard as "better than" people who might be newer to the meme. it was more making a point about the spirit of the meme and how that hasn't changed since it started. i think some of the more egregious comments were because people got worked up over the negging about HTP dying off if it doesn't cater to this specific thing some people want, and i kinda understand getting defensive in light of that if you've been here for a while and always dug the trash meme for exactly what it was. *shrug* no one is saying one kink is better than the other kink, or that one side is better than the other because their tastes are better, just that most of the content here has always had a sexual component rather than straight up distressing body horror/torture.
