I mean, given the fucking weird mad-science shit Zola gets up to, I don't see why it even has to be an AU--he has his secret evil lab guarded by Actual Hydra Tentacle Rape Monsters just because.

I started plotting out a story where confused post-WS Bucky is on the run and he's just SO TIRED and he sees a door that says "HYDRA LAB STAY OUT" and maybe something inside him is screaming but at least that means sleep.

But it turns out it's a lab full of actual giant genetically engineered Hydra instead. (This makes perfect sense in Marvel science, actually - a lot of people are doing longevity/healing factor research on hydra in the real world, so sketchy labs in mcu would totally be playing with them.) (Plus they respire via simple diffusion so if you wanted to make them giant-size and live, you'd have to keep them in a tank full of super-oxygen-rich liquid, which theoretically your supersoldier could breathe, right? Mermaid Bucky!)

But then Bucky was just too depressed and it keeps wanting to be sweet, sad tentacle cuddles and tentacle monsters feeding him fish and petting his hair while he cries and keeping the mean people with guns away, instead of proper trash party. :/ So I gift this setup to the rest of you in case somebody else can do it trash-party justice.
