Who are HydraTrashMeme fanon Strike team members? Names, personalities?

This place has turned into Avengerkink, except sub Tony for Bucky. To the point that people are wanting to give Steve-centric prompts Bucky-centric fills or are re-prompting them as Bucky-centric. Idk, that just seems like rude meme etiquette

Hey, that's unfair. No one here has been writing any fic about how the isolationist African nation Wakanda worships a rich white man who used to be an arms dealer and treats him like a mascot or been reporting prompts for being too nice to characters that aren't Bucky.

Ehhhh. As a Steve-whump fan with long-running gripes about the trashmeme's woobie-Bucky fixation, who's had prompts hijacked with comment threads that veered towards "but what would bring some suffering that's actually interesting into the mix is how [hideously traumatic thing happening to Steve] would affect Bucky's self-esteem during his recovery," I feel the pain. But I'm not really feeling the Avengerkink comparison--none of the stuff I'd gripe about here rises above the level of "people who like one popular thing being thoughtlessly dismissive towards less-common things that don't include the thing they like." Avengerkink's problems ran sooo much deeper than that, and had long since lost any shred of plausible deniability or resemblance to the thoughtless stepping-on-toes that's normal when people are enthusiastic about different things.

And on a pure etiquette level, hijacking (especially hijacking that denigrates the original) is the rude way to deal with prompts that are one or two fundamental changes away from being something you really want. "Hey, I got inspired and wrote something but it wasn't really what you asked for, where should I put it?" is the most polite way I can think of to tackle it--it's an awkward situation, but it happens.

I remember seeing mention of a trash chat back in the day, but at the time I was way too shy to try to join in. It seems like it could be such fun! Wondering if a discord server or something could happen.

I know these places always slow down after an certain amount of time, but damn it I miss how awesome and active this place used to be. Don’t get me wrong, there’s still some good stuff posted every now and then, but I remember when I used to check this place daily and there was always some new and great content.

There have been... a lot of comments recently by anons who don't seem fully aware of what

hydratrashmeme is about. From context, it sounds like they're interpreting "trash" as either "raunchy kink stuff that might get me anon hate on Tumblr" or "any kind of bad, whumpy, dehumanizing stuff happening to a character."

And to be fair, it's not like #2 is even inaccurate. Just incomplete, in that it doesn't account for how specialized and idiosyncratic the usage has become on the HTP kinkmeme. "Bucky Barnes, Hydra party favor" -> "Hydra party favor trash party 2k14" -> "Hydra trash party" -> tropes about "Bucky's trash past" as a Hydra party favor -> "trash" as shorthand or even euphemism for "Bucky and/or Steve and/or another CA:TWS character get the bejeezus raped outta them."

Most of those have plenty of context cues that the entire premise of HTP is one giant noncon-fest, but I've seen more and more uses of "trash" on its own to mean "you know, the kind of stuff we write here, wink wink nudge nudge." Which seems to have unmoored itself from what it originally referred to, because now we've got anons using "trash party" as a synonym for "orgy" or flat-out asking "Wait, by 'trash' do you mean sex?"

Presumably those anons picked up on the "filthy kink stuff" or "terrible things happen to Bucky Barnes" implications and, IDK, assumed that much like Avengerkink ended up with a disproportionate woobie!Tony fixation, Hydratrashmeme ended up with a disproportionate noncon fixation. Or something. When no, what we've got is a premise.

Just going to end this with Trashmod's reply to the "By 'trash' do you mean sex?" comment, which lays out the premise in a nutshell but got buried in the thread:

"To the extent this kinkmeme has a unifying purpose, it's taking the high-quality whump supplied by canon and dragging it to places that are nasty, filthy, and wrong. So yeah, the badwrong sex aspect is pretty non-optional."

I'd be even more explicit than that: HTP may have room around the edges for other variants of 'badwrong,' but its basic premise has always been "OK, what if CA:TWS, but with a fuckton of noncon included in the brutality?" I'd assumed that was common knowledge. It's really frickin' surreal to see a bunch of people who apparently never got that memo participating in the HTP kinkmeme--what do they think they're contributing to?

Anyway. We might wanna reconsider using "trash" as a vague euphemism for HTP's subject matter, because unintended side effects. Besides, it's HTP, what's the point of euphemisms? If you're asking someone else to write rape recovery fic for you, surely you can use the actual word to describe the thing you want to read.

So, I was the anon who asked this. I debated on whether to answer to this, but I thought I'd clarify it. I've followed the community for a couple of years now, and I'm aware the general idea is for there to be a sexual aspect to the fics here. And that's how I found it, looking for fics about Bucky being raped, and that's why I stayed. However, there have been prompts that focused on the violence/dehumanization aspect of Bucky's captivity, like the one just revived about HYDRA making Bucky eat his arm. It's a prompt to which you could add a sexual aspect to, but it's not sexual in itself.

Now, mind you, perhaps my prompt wasn't as gory as that, and another anon "trashified" it for me later, but due to the post's description (Garbage we like: noncon, whump, aftermath, violence, mind control, inappropriate uses of Bucky Barnes' metal arm, bad guys doing dirtybadwrong things to your faves, which does make it sound like noncon is appreciated but not necessarily an obligation, so it might confuse newcomers who are not aware of what it's about) and to other such prompts, I thought it would be okay to focus on the violence aspect instead of rape. My bad.

I did notice the prompts which were really not trashy in any way, which I don't know if it was someone being a troll or really not reading the description, just thought I'd clarify that my comment was not a part of that.

Don't know if this is off topic or even if the chatter post is still active, but I thought I could try.

So what happened to Avenger kink? I visited it rarely and the last time I.visited it, I saw it was closed due to some drama. Does anyone know the details?

I think people are picking up on the horrible things happening to Barnes and thinking gosh, being forced to eat your own arm is basically trash. They don't realize how tightly this kink meme adheres to the original htp flavor. And, to be fair, I think there have been some fills that haven't put in non-con.

So yes, I feel there's a communication issue (especially with how the rules are phrased at the top, not so much the in thread clarification comments over the years). But there's also the problem of us attracting more people because there is no active place where it's acceptable, nay, blatantly encouraged to post dark fic prompts except here.

So while we don't allow something that is just Bucky Barnes eating his arm and no non-con, there definitely isn't a place with people filling prompts that accepts those types of prompts right now.

(By accept, I don't mean rules wise, but demographic of fillers and what they are interested in wise. They will ignore it at the least, at the worst start massive wank.)
