.....but actually. i'm like, 75% rolling my eyes (they're probably gonna retcon it eventually tbh) and 25% eager to see what sorts of trash possibilities unfold from this.

It's a big DNW even in fanfic, I even can't wrap my mind on how unhappy to know they are doing it canon is making me (please make them retcon it right away). :C

From the looks of the full panel, it's a doppelganger/replacement plot. So it's basically already retconned. :)

THIS. It's not even out yet and tumblr is already going batshit crazy. Marvel wants the controversy because alas, now everybody talks about the new comic. And people are not only falling for it, they're overdoing it like woah. Sometimes I worry about people's priorities. It's a comic. It's a fictional character. For the love of god, calm down.

And in a totally unsurprising turn of events, someone in the tumblr tag is blaming HTP goyim for turning Steve into a Nazi by liking Nazi characters so much that Marvel just HAD to cater to us and give us HYDRA!Steve.

...Did I miss the entire run of comics where Bucky/Steve is explicit and graphic and naked, then? I mean. Since we apparently control Marvel via the fanworks we produce, and I'm pretty sure there's 10,000 times more Steve/Bucky than HTP fic.

Seriously. If fandom had that kind of power, the comics would resemble porn by now and Steve would wear the Nomad plunging V-neckline down to his pubes.

Honestly, I would not mind the Nomad if it were in red white and blue.

Marvel gets to decide what's on topic for Marvel, trashmeme gets to decide what's on topic for trashmeme.

Which is to say: the "no dark good guys" rule isn't a statement about the general acceptability of mirrorverses or dark AUs, it's a broad guideline about the kind of badwrong this meme is geared towards. It's open to revision if the new Hydra!Cap material is trashy enough to shift people's interests. But overheated Tumblr rhetoric for or against isn't a terribly good indicator of fandom's interest in creating stuff, so we'll have to wait and see how it all shakes out.

Technically, if he has really been Hydra all along, Steve being evil wouldn't be dark-good-guys anymore, she says chirpily.

(ayrt) the off topic thing was mostly a joke - but i was also legitimately curious how this development would affect meme parameters, so thanks for clarifying, trashmod!

What's depressing me is that the tumblr tag is no longer a safe zone - not that it was ever sparkling to begin with, but I am legitimately in tears over the level of uncaring, pure hatred that's being piled on us like never before. I've written stories here, I've enjoyed this community, and now that every hater has a very real excuse to attack my humanity for finding a home here... It makes me want to crawl into a hole and die. Can't we just be left in fucking peace?

Personally, I think it would be wise to leave hydra!steve out of HTP entirely. We don't need to give all the anti's that kind of fuel.

I kind of agree with you on the fuel thing, and distancing ourselves from this? I just, I am pretty legitimately terrified right now at the level of hatred and how personal it is getting. I wish they would just contact Marvel about it and stop blaming us, because we had nothing to do with this. I am really upset Marvel did this to Steve and I feel crushed that they have taken a character that gave me hope and affiliated him with people who would want me dead, but just. That is on them, not those of us that enjoy darkfic.
