Chatter post

For all your discussion needs.

Ground rules:
- Try to keep it loosely trash party related, or at least Cap fandom related.
- Disagreement is fine, nastiness is not.
- Being offended is not carte blanche for nastiness.
- Trashmeme ground rules apply. Read at your own risk, no romanticizing your noncon garbage, no wank about the moral acceptability of noncon kink.
- Body shots, sniper shots, and tetanus shots are all available at the open bar. Party like it's 2014, kids.

I have specified, for the third time now, that what is a good writer is subjective, and I have commented on those I found good in my own subjective opinion.

Re: Dumpster, we need to talk!

Instead of 'specifying', you could consider apologising to the people you've hurt. That would probably have more impact than continuing to insist that you didn't say anything wrong and we're all just misunderstanding you.

Re: Dumpster, we need to talk!

(Anonymous) 2016-11-15 02:10 am (UTC)(link)
I honestly do not know who's who in this thread anymore, but I'm sorry if anyone felt personally hurt by the good author comment.

Re: Dumpster, we need to talk!

(Anonymous) 2016-11-15 02:16 am (UTC)(link)
There's no *if*. I don't know how many people are here either, but there's at least one poster other than me saying explicitly that your comments hurt them. At this point, reading all your responses, I feel like you've pulled every trick in the "shitty manipulative internet argument" handbook - the condescension, the repeated twisting of reasonable arguments to make it seem like you're being unfairly victimised, the insistence in the face of all evidence that you and you alone have good intentions, and now the fauxpology. All that's left now is the dramatic flounce.

Re: Dumpster, we need to talk!

(Anonymous) 2016-11-15 02:56 am (UTC)(link)
Dude, I'm out. I literally apologized, and that's still not good enough for you. If anyone's words have been constantly twisted, it have been mine.

I literally started out with a positive message of trying to get some love for our authors, but I was jumped on for my choice of title, my choice of words, and now attempts to elaborate are "shitty manipulative arguments".

I though this dumpster was a cool, welcoming (albeit no-nonsense place), but all I find here is bitterness.

Re: Dumpster, we need to talk!

(Anonymous) 2016-11-15 03:17 am (UTC)(link)
What on earth was the point of this comment? We get it. You've said nothing wrong, ever in your whole life. The only reason we're arguing at all is because every other participant in this conversation is mean and bitter and doesn't appreciate your uwu good intentions. And now you're turning your flounce into some kind of performance art? Dude. If you're out, just be out. If you don't want to fight, don't.

This dumpster is a pretty cool place as it is, imo. We can always improve - everyone can - but we don't need random anons coming out of nowhere to save us from our terrible no-good commenting practices like the world's pettiest and most patronising hero. I don't actually know why you thought it would be a good idea to try and boss around a community this famously oppositional, but...well, live and learn, I hope.

You know the sad thing, dear anon? I'm not a random anon, and chances are we might even know each other. That only makes it sadder, really. I didn't post under my name because it was a personal opinion, and felt it shouldn't matter, but now I sort of regret I didn't.

Re: Dumpster, we need to talk!

(Anonymous) 2016-11-15 03:44 am (UTC)(link)
I thought you were out?

But if you're regretting not putting this under your own name, you're welcome to deanon. We may well have crossed paths, though I doubt we're close - you are hitting every single one of my red flags for manipulative pass-agg bullshit.

Re: Dumpster, we need to talk!

(Anonymous) 2016-11-15 03:58 am (UTC)(link)
Whereas your bullshit is just straight-up agg?

The OP's first post was a well-meaning but poorly-phrased idea, and it doesn't seem to me that riding to battle on your white charger with trumpets blaring has done much to increase understanding; before you start defending all our honor, it might in the future behoove you to check and make sure we think our honor needs defending.

Though I must admit, the random 'America-centric' thing at least gave a chuckle.

Re: Dumpster, we need to talk!

(Anonymous) 2016-11-15 04:04 am (UTC)(link)
Hi there, NA-who-is-definitely-not-OP-sameanoning.

I'm not here to defend anyone's honour or increase understanding. I got a bit pissed off by OP's tone deaf lecture, and then I got even more pissed off by how shocked and indignant they were not to meet with universal gratitude and agreement for their post.

But I'm not the only person in this thread - the most vocally pissed off, perhaps, but not the only. So if you'd like to fight me too, the 'you're the only person who feels this way' tack is unlikely to work.

Re: Dumpster, we need to talk!

(Anonymous) 2016-11-15 04:31 am (UTC)(link)
Don't believe I said you were the only person who felt anything. You're just the one who rode into the fight.

Me, I'd enjoy getting more comments on stuff, sure! But the odds of getting any result I like from going, "Hey, you all oughtta tell me-I-mean-AUTHORS more about how cool my fics are"? Not high.

Not, in fact, any better than the odds that shouting at the OP is going to cause anything but getting their back up...as it did. Well done. Give yourself a hand. You have successfully scorned the ham-handedness and leapt bravely down the throat of someone who (gasp) misread the room. That's exactly what this meme needs more of, right, excoriating each other? Because it's not like we've got plenty of outsiders happy to do it for us.

I can't do a slow clap for you in text, so you'll just have to imagine it.

And, you know, maybe consider cooling your damn jets and rolling your eyes next time. Ringing silence gets the "that was dumb" message across just as well.

I am laughing so hard at the unchecked irony of this.

You're learning.

Re: Dumpster, we need to talk!

(Anonymous) 2016-11-15 04:47 am (UTC)(link)
Lol not really. Just laughing. At this point, I think there's nothing else left to do.

I assume I'm not the only one to notice that an anon with the exact pompous, pedantic written style turned up to white knight for OP at the exact moment OP declared they were flouncing from the thread.

Re: Dumpster, we need to talk!

(Anonymous) 2016-11-15 05:14 am (UTC)(link)
:sigh:

I don't know who the OP was and frankly am amazed that you can't tell our styles apart--though being that bad with a close reading explains a bit about the damn-the-torpedoes quality of the whole thing--and, once again, think that the OP's post was ill-advised and certainly ill-phrased. You are of course free to think I'm a liar, but rest assured I've had no slightest wish to address you as "dear anon".

However, it's bedtime here. Lest I be accused of "flouncing", I would like to explicitly say that I will be back. Unless you get a goddamn clue and let your silence ring. That'd be awesome.

I've said for years that nothing productive ever comes of any conversation that starts "Hey, asshole!", and this one is certainly no exception.

Re: Dumpster, we need to talk!

(Anonymous) 2016-11-15 05:24 am (UTC)(link)
Alright, I'll take your word that you're a new anon - in which case I'll ask you why you keep coming back to hurl around personal insults and aspersions about my reading comprehension under the guise of being 'above' this sort of petty internet squabble. Lead by example, etc. etc.

To be honest, at this point I'm still replying purely because I'm getting cranky and petty and don't want to end the conversation on your say-so. It's been a while since anything worthwhile happened in this thread, but I stand by my original position and will absolutely repeat the whole thing if any more patronising jackasses show up to the party. I don't share your enthusiasm for silence in the face of irritation.

I don't know why that bothers you so much, and I don't know why, if you're so invested in ending the discussion, you keep trying to have the last word. *I* want the last word too, but at least I'm being honest about it and not preaching on about the virtues of shutting up with no apparent sense of irony.

Because I don't like bullies.

Someone said a stupid thing and you jumped on in, swinging wildly--I think my favorite was the charges of ableism for daring to like some writers more than others. (Also still waiting on WTF 'America-centric' is supposed to mean.) It was fucking textbook. And I am still trying to learn the lesson about wrestling with a pig, so here we are.

*I* want the last word too, but at least I'm being honest about it and not preaching on about the virtues of shutting up with no apparent sense of irony.

The time to shut up was when someone said a stupid thing and you decided to fall upon them like the wrath of an extremely petty god. Too late for that now, so I'm trying to give you an out: Don't reply and you win.

Besides, I can't stop now; you'll say I'm flouncing! It's so convenient, having that to claim victory with when your opponent gets tired.

Where on earth did you get that from? No, seriously, how did you manage to get that from this?

If you don't like bullies, you might want to rethink the personal attacks you fling around.

Um, dude, the ableism comment *wasn't me*. That was some other anon having a yell at me (not OP) for my disparaging comments about requesters who don't also fill. This would be less funny if you hadn't been all snooty at me about my reading comprehension.

And it's nice to hear you're doing this because you don't like bullies. Given the enthusiasm and readiness with which you've been throwing around personal insults, for a second there I got a very different impression of your motives. My bad. Steve Rogers would be proud of you.

'Flounce' is not some cunning new insults I've made up - it's a common term for a very specific behaviour wherein someone who's been involved in online wank makes a melodramatic ~goodbye cruel world~ post about how they're leaving forever because you big pack of meanies wouldn't give me what I wanted and look, aren't you all sorry now? For examples of a flounce post, you can look through Google or just browse upthread a bit. Scout's honour, I have never once used the word to refer to someone quietly leaving a discussion they got tired of and I'm not about to start now.

And by the way - your 'wrestling with a pig' comment is more than a little dehumanizing. Yes, I know it's an Orwell quote and no that doesn't change the impact. Please don't refer to me as an animal again.

"manipulative pass-agg bullshit"

Those words, I think they do not know what you think they mean.

Provided you were the same person whining about entitled tumblr authors and undeserved gold stars, this is hilarious, because this is the most tumblr shit I've seen on this thread. Don't like what someone is saying? Quick, accuse them of being manipulative. You forgot to add that they're bad for your mental health or something. I'm surprised how few people have commented on *your* bs.

Re: Dumpster, we need to talk!

(Anonymous) 2016-11-15 08:25 am (UTC)(link)
I am absolutely certain those words mean what I think they mean. I've seen enough fandom wank over the years to recognise when people are trying to control a conversation through disingenuous tactics. OP anon is textbook, and I'm happy to talk through my reasons for that claim in more detail and with quotes from their comments if you'd like me to. Honestly, I can't sleep and I have nothing better to do with my time right now.

Alternatively, you can go back to fail_fandomanon and stop trying to spoil our perfectly good in-house wank.

Also not an ad hoc accusation, for the record and for any casual observers. Please see the following thread, which happened pretty much simultaneous to this sudden wank resurgence:

AYRT That doesn't have much to do with how the initial comment came across. And as a tip, apologises come across as apologises better if you don't add an "if" to them.
