I'm not sure we've ever had a Bucky Cap prompt here, and I am gonna rectify that right now.

SO:

Steve is dead. Bucky has taken up the shield and is struggling to honor his legacy. He wants so badly to be worthy of it and fears/knows he isn't. In this climate,

OPTION A: Videos of past trash get released!

OPTION B: Bucky gets recaptured and raped and everyone knows!

I would prefer both for this to be a serious blow to Bucky's confidence in his position as Cap and for there to be actual public outrage about his suitability. The world was just tolerating having the Winter Soldier as Captain America; add in a sex scandal and people are clamoring for his resignation.

Bonuses for maximum trash:

+ either past Steve/Bucky or Bucky has been completely unable to have sex for trash reasons, but either way he's single now, and thus

+ despite his having trusted friends and teammates, he's not intimately close to anyone, so he feels pretty alone in this

(OP) well here I am hijacking my own prompt BUT I keep imagining Bucky Cap getting raped and honestly it is the greatest. There's many advantages to both possibilities, it being old-style Hydra baddies or first-time Bucky abusers, but imagine if either way they knew Steve? The things they could say to Bucky! Rogers was a self-righteous prick with a stick up his ass, but you had to respect the guy. Had a kind of purity about him. Not like you. Picture all the things they could do to make Bucky feel ashamed he ever dreamed he wasn't too ruined, hadn't already been brought too low to carry on Steve's legacy.

And afterward, Bucky's glad Steve never had to know this about him, but at the same time he misses him more than he would have thought possible. Orrr maybe Steve did know about Bucky's trash past, but he was the only one Bucky ever opened up to about it, and so Bucky's in crisis and his support system is DEAD and his trauma gets tangled up with his grief and he doesn't know how to cope. This is the exact situation he needs Steve for, and Steve isn't here. Even if it's just videos being released, it would still be enough to send Bucky into a tailspin and make him NEED the only person he ever felt he could divulge his trash problems to; you know, the guy he watched them bury six months ago.

Meanwhile people are calling him a slut and screaming for him to resign. The next civilian he saves spits on him.

This is so great. This seems like something Hydra would just love in order to fuck up the Avengers and Bucky's new life and show that maybe they can't mind control the Asset anymore but they sure can control his life.
