Dumpster #3: The Great Pacific Garbage Patch

Holy shitballs, look at us go. Welcome to Captain America fandom's resident wretched hive of scum and villainy: ROUND THREE. AKA Bad Guys Do Dirtybadwrong Things To Your Faves, AKA the Hydra Trash Party kinkmeme. As usual, BLANKET NON-CON AND NSFW WARNINGS apply: just assume going in that everything in this landfill is unfit for human consumption.

Rules in brief: don't be a jerk except to fictional characters, warnings for particularly fucked-up garbage are nice but not required, thou shalt not judge the trashiness of thy neighbor's kinks unless thy neighbor is trying to pass off their rotting banana peels and half-eaten pizza crusts as a healthy romantic dinner for two, off-topic comments may be chucked out of the dumpster at management's discretion, management's discretion decrees that omegaverse, soulbond AUs, D/s-verse, non-superpowered AUs, and dark!good guys AUs are off-topic.

[Round 1] [Round 2] [Fill post] [Chatter post] [hydratrashmeme Pinboard archive (maintained by [personal profile] greenkirtle)] [Round 3 in flat view (comments in non-threaded chronological order, most recent last)]

Round 3 is closed; comments and fills in existing threads are still welcome, but all new prompts go to Round 4.

too many memories

*pokes head in* hi...? Does anyone still go here?

So: typically I don't subscribe to the theory that Hydra could have implanted memories in Bucky's brain, but what if they did? As his memories come back, it's hard to differentiate the real ones from the fakes. Going to a baseball game in 1941 appears to be real, but having dinner with Stalin probably isn't. And what about his memory of picnicking in a sunny
orchard in Russia with an old lady? Is that part of an implanted backstory, or was she a target, or did he escape for a few days long ago?

In this atmosphere of uncertainty (and emotional torment!), Bucky is slammed with a TON of memories of rape. What I'm imagining is that Bucky is so disturbed and his relationship with his body is so threatened that the only way he's staving off incredible trauma is by convincing himself those memories are fake. My dream plot would have him obsessively questing through his own history for evidence that he was never raped; going through his files, visiting old bases where he was kept, identifying and searching through the records of a hotel he remembers being fucked in.

+ the search itself takes a huge toll on his mental health

+ of course he was really raped

+ he finds this out in a confrontation with a rapist, which he expected to end with the confirmation no one touched him

+ some of the most fucked up memories ARE fake, but the trauma from them is real; triggers and nightmares and so on

Sorry, I guess? It's just been silent for a few days.

Ah, no need to apologize!

I've noticed that the meme goes through cycles - sometimes there's a ton of posting and sometimes it's quiet for days. I know a lot of us were occupied with Halloween for a few days.

Different anon

I just sort of assumed people were busy with Halloween/All Saints and stuff.

God, I hope so. Fandom life *out there* is no fun for trashy kinksters. ;p

So yeah, I'm super glad people are still around, and whatever flavor of trash you guys prompt/fill, I'm here to cheer you on. \o/

It's because we're better than them.

No, that can't be right... we definitely know how to fun in more places and more terrible ways, though!

Ooof, OP. This is a good prompt and I don't think I've seen something similar on the meme thus far.

What I love about it is that Bucky is so proactive about finding out what was done to him. It's also nail-baitingly tense because each secret he uncovers leads him further to the discovery of a truth he does not want to face - he was raped during his captivity.

Also, what I love is the complete uncertainty of his memories - what's implanted and what's real? Are the operatives he's interrogating telling him the truth or just sending him on a wild goose chase? I can see him being incredibly frustrated, pretty much to the point of despair, as his journey unearths either more questions than answers or answers that he had prayed were not true.

It's so terribly unfair for Bucky, who's finally escaped HYDRA after all those years.
