This made me D: so hard in the very best way.
I also love how you rendered Peggy's experience of this. Like: she saw all of it, and was clearly paying attention, but it's not the sort of memory you can look at straight on chronologically with all its parts intact.
And then of course Peggy coolly managing everything and keeping things light and just taking charge of the situation. Damn. This was everything I wanted and more. *lays at your feet a bundle of used straws tied with twine and a dozen rotting take-out containers*

Yeah, exactly, that was the kind of thing I was trying to get at. Something huge and horrible like that, you only remember parts of it and it's so tough to put them together right.
