Also, I'm so pleased that line worked for you, anon, because it's meant to come across as troubling. Not so much for what it says about Bucky, who we already know is messed up about this stuff, but for what it says about Katie. Bucky has been raped and tortured and brainwashed by Hydra until the idea of consenting to sex is meaningless, but what's Katie's excuse? It's possible, of course, that Bucky's an unreliable narrator when he describes her as someone who has never experienced cruelty - we really don't know anything about her - but in my head he's correct. So the idea that she performs an inexpert version of what Bucky himself is so good at - feeling bad and not saying anything - is intended as depressing commentary on the perils of being socialized as a girl. (That's a huge generalization, obviously - ymmv, and hopefully it does.)

YES, that was exactly what I was thinking about when reading your Katie -- that there's so much social pressure (at least here in the US of A) for girls to ... well, not say no, to be pleasant and agreeable, to sublimate negative emotions... I know to many cases of girls being like "well, I didn't *really* want to, but..."

So yeah, that line slayed me. And I was super proud of Bucky recognizing it for what it was. (Even though the reason that Bucky is so attuned to reading people is because he's been trained to give them what *they* want.) And it's such a good contrast to David, as well -- David reading Bucky's submission not as a discomfort and lack of consent, but that Bucky is just filthy and *wants* it that way.

In other words, I love all the things you're doing here, a!a. <333
