Oh man where do I start. I just love so much about this. (Well in that horrifying way).

I love how there is actual dissonance between how he lets David treat him and how he feels about himself (I like that he's personally at peace with the arm and the scars - just sees them as part of him).

I like how he's just unable to see David's own internalized homophobia, and blames it on himself.

I love how those words keep affecting him, and the arm shaking just breaks my heart.

I love how it's mentioned in passing that Sam and Steve just love (or pretend to, doesn't matter) everything he cooks.

I love how he actually asks Sam to touch the parts of him he's been demeaned about, and Sam delivers.

All of it, just oh my heart :( I want to wrap so many blankets around him.

I'm so happy that these details stood out for you, anon - they were some of my favorite parts to write. Bucky has a pretty good attitude toward his body, here, when it's not being used for sex: it's strong, and capable, and his. And while he believes David when he calls him a slut, a whore, etc., he doesn't really believe him when he calls the scars disgusting. But he recognizes that those comments have upset him (well, the violent rape has also upset him, but that's harder to acknowledge), and he's emotionally well-adjusted enough to ask for something that will help him feel better.

And yes, Bucky's cooking! :) I wanted to show his capacity for enjoyment, for pleasure-seeking, in ways that have nothing to do with sex. I like to think he's getting pretty good at it, although of course (as you say) Sam and Steve would compliment his meals regardless. <3
