LOLz the first time I went into #Winterbones, this horror creeped up into me when I realized that people ship these two as a romantic and healthy relationship and I noped on out of there. Say what you will about the gleeful tone here but I think pretending the ship is a desirable endgame is more f--k'd up than acknowledging how horrible it is. Acknowledging that bad things happen and wanting to explore that in a piece of fiction's hypothetical world does not equal being a bad person who wants said bad things to happen. JFC at these kids who think the adults can’t tell fiction from reality, because they themselves can't.

OMG the Hary Potter fandom Quite a bit that was with underage characters. I'm not complaining or judging them, it's just evidence that HTP style fic is nothing new and plenty of older fandoms were just as full of the same type of stories.

Or, or Tony!whump. Ever look at Avengerkink? It's a super busy meme, new prompts almost every day, adding up to hundreds of pages of prompts, and half those prompts involve Tony getting raped somehow. I rarely see anyone truly complaining about it and the people who write it never get targeted.

But then, neither of those situations involve fans openly admitting they're into the genre of rapefic,then coming together as a group and naming themselves.

Because you can get away with whatever you want as long as you don't name it for what it is.

Whelp, no, actually it's people daring to tell survivors how they're fucked and sick and wrong if they like it/cope in a not-approved-by-fandom-police-way.
Especially when so much other stuff that would be horrible irl gets a pass in fiction, and fanfic, yet somehow, magically, sexual violence is the one thing that can't be written about in fic (as if it weren't something that happened in canon to many female characters or served as a backstory, hell, as if there weren't entire TV shows based on sex crimes/most crime shows don't have sexually motivated plots as plot of the week).

To me, this honestly feels too much like irl. Everyone agrees that sexual violence is the worst in theory, when in practice it's all to easy to dismiss survivors who cope in the wrong way, who don't recover fast enough or never fully, who are even upset when it never escalated to full-blown assault, and so on.

It's not the same thing, obviously, not at all and not by far the worst, but as someone who more than half a lifetime later still struggles, still has a shit-ton of issues, has done better and worse on-and-off, it just makes me a hella angry when people dare to act like they are some sort of authority when in fact, they have no clue what they're even talking about but have no qualms whatsoever about throwing others under the bus for not being the perfect survivor with the perfect recovery story to follow.

THIS. i was recently checking out avengerkink & practically every other prompt features (as you say) "non-con fic trope(s) that handwave(s) consent" or otherwise have some really fucked up power dynamics & consent practices without acknowledging ANY of it & it really really bothered me. and no one bats an eye, lmao.

lol what i think so funny about the whole thing is that SO MUCH FIC in fandom in general features AWFUL consent practices. like really pretty bad. low-key coercion and bad communication are normalized and even seen as cute/romantic. and no one says anything.

for me personally? both as a rape survivor and as, you know, just a person who likes transparency, i would much rather read dubcon/noncon that is obviously called as such & that meets those issues head on.

as opposed to like, getting halfway through a story i think is going to be nice and fluffy and then encountering a really pushy, coercive sex scene. i hate that crap! and that crap is EVERYWHERE.

idk these days i pretty much only read fic where (a) the consent practices are like REALLY explicit & there's a lot of in-story negotiation or where (b) the sexual situations are Definitely Bad and are treated as such. but that's just me.

yeah... that's where the 'so long as it doesn't harm anyone' thing comes into play. I can't recall anyone trying to argue that ALL coping mechanisms are fine, jfc. not to mention there are a whole lot of abuse survivors that manage to not become cannibals or murderers, so maaaaaaaybe this one's a statistical anomaly. y'know. Greetings! I am just_tea_thanks/dogtagsandsmut on Ao3, and I am pleased to announce that there is a Hydra Trash Party hard copy anthology in the works. I don't party on tumblr or LJ; is there a place where one can privately share lost/deleted Cap fics? I wanted to re-read "The Theory of Symmetry" (http://ao3feed-stevexbucky.tumblr.com/post/114355160697/the-theory-of-symmetry) and it's gone from AO3, along with the author.

Does anybody know if there's a way to get hold of it? If I had to take an educated guess, I'd assume shit hit the fan because it was obviously inspired by "A Long Winter" & "The Thirteen Letters" and that's why it disappeared. (And by "obviously inspired" I mean four sentences matched, out of 37000 words.)

It is gone from AO3 too. The only way is to have it sent to you privately, if someone saved it in their computer. Now I'm so sad too, I haven't an account on tumblr so I haven't had a chance to read it in the first place.

So usually I... okay, I was about to say usually I don't waste my time on pointless internet arguments, but that is a complete lie. I love internet arguments. But I usually don't spend this much time on them.

Because when people are Wrong On The Internet to the extent that my fellow trashbabies are upset and hurt, I feel like I need to do something. But I sure as fuck don't have the patience to go around to every teenager who's just discovered the internet and explain what darkfic is.

So instead I thought maybe I could put all those explanations in a blog that we can just point wankers at.
