First off, as a small detail, I really like the body language in this. For example, Teddy fiddling with Bucky's metal arm the entire time, and all the physical comfort Bucky bestows. It's so sweet. All my teeth and my heart hurt now.

It is completely heartwrenching that Teddy's real fear, even above the nightmare imagery of his dad getting raped, is that he and his other dads have somehow hurt Bucky too. Thank God Bucky did such a good job laying out consent, clarifying that the same action can be good or bad depending on whether you want it. I did laugh at the unexpected TMI. Sure, kid, we do anal, but first we gotta wash up and also sometimes we're too tired!

(by the way "they were putting things in your butt" is kind of a funny line but it's also horrifying, because it drives home the violence of what this kid saw and that it was a kid who saw it)

He doesn't even want to kill anyone now, he just wants to die himself so he doesn't have to know how much Teddy is confused and hurting because of him, because of what he once was.

BUCKY NO, THIS ISN'T ON YOU. This is a wonderful characterization note -- of course Bucky thinks this is his fault for the cartload of baggage that follows him around.

Bucky doesn't think Sam considered the possibility that Bucky was going to have to explain his own rapes to Teddy before he had a chance to tell him anything about normal sex, but here they are.

I also love that Teddy's initial reaction to "they didn't think of me as a person" was to guess that they were genuinely confused due to the metal arm. He probably won't ever understand the extent to which Bucky was dehumanized, because... you have to see it to believe it.

Another detail I really enjoyed: Bucky's continual comparisons of Teddy to Sam and Steve, and that he sees Sam in Teddy when he's smart enough to talk his way out of trouble, and Steve when he's RIGHTEOUS AND BRUISED. It just tells you everything.

This has a happy ending, but at the same time Teddy's going to remember that video forever, and he's gonna understand it more and more as he gets older. They'll probably have to work through this several more times. Poor kid; poor Bucky!

Thank you for the fill! It was messed up and pretty adorable and I loved it.

Thank you! I have all of this stuff plotted out about Teddy and his three dads, and one of those things is that Bucky is kind of the go-to cuddly affectionate parent (and Teddy really really loves his arm but knows other people find it weird), so yay! I'm glad all of that worked!

Bucky, uh... still has some issues to work through, though, yeah. He ignores them a lot because he is very busy being the go-to cuddly affectionate stay-behind-and-mind-the-kid parent, but they have not actually gone away. Luckily he and Teddy have Steve and Sam.

Annnnd yeah, this is not really over. (And I might need to write juuuust a little more of it, because I can't stop thinking about that phone call and when Steve and Sam get home...)

ME NEITHER, FRIEND. Bucky was outraged on Teddy's behalf, but not as much for himself; Steve and Sam will be outraged for EVERYONE.

when I saw pt 2 I was like damn you really went for it. very touching. I loved the part where Bucky paused when he said it wasn't his (own) fault for being tortured/raped. seeing himself through his kid's eyes must be very healing

and omg yes if you did another part where sam and steve come home i would eat that shit up
