I've seen a few metas talking about how Bucky's arm probably has more internal anchoring and the stress that and the sheer weight of it would put on his body, particularly his spine. At least here it's going to get better with time and treatment, because blah blah handwave supersoldier serum – in my defense there's canonical implication that cryofreeze has some kind of weird effect on healing, because the scars around his shoulder still look fairly fresh.

Like I mentioned above, there are so many fics that leave me going "But what does Bucky DO all day?!", so this is in part my attempt to answer that question I guess. To go further... well, that, I feel, would be telling. :P

Even a post-trash relationship can't be eternal torment! I wanted to show a little of why/how these guys like each other – in the flirting and the domestic stuff – and then yes, they finally made it work! In a scene that practically had vaseline smeared on the lens, contrary to Bucky's protestations early on.

The chronic pain aspect fascinates me too, especially because it's such a big part of my life--I recommend "your blue-eyed boys" http://archiveofourown.org/series/107477 which has an AWESOME podfic available by everyone's favorite trash podficcer... It's not explicitly post-trash but I certainly choose to interpret it that way. (There is a great dumpster joke towards the end if you're listening for it!)

Seconding how great it is to hear a little of what Buck does all day. I've read one story where it's anything besides run from Steve/run towards Steve/therapy/blow up Hydra/sit around and angst and it's much more realistic this way.

No, by all means, dork away! I've actually only listened to it and I tend to miss details that way, so I obviously need to revisit its greatness. The dumpster joke [SPOILER]

is towards the end when they're discussing how to replace Bucky's arm and Steve says something about a certain option being so far off the table it's around the corner in a dumpster... and all I could think was that, yes, retraumatizing Bucky in this scenario is certainly the dumpster option.

the trash is the lack of trash! IIRC, Steve keeps being afraid to initiate sex b/c he's worried that Bucky was raped, and Steve not initiating sex is feeding into Bucky's self-hatred, until he confronts Steve and explains that no one raped him because "who would be willing to get that close to me?" <333 I really like her writing style but she also tends to write around ideas in a way that makes it hard to get things sometime--like if anyone could explain the Velveteen Rabbit thing in the sequel stories, I would be so happy. Thanks for explaining about the dumpster.

Eh, different kind of scars can look very different. I actually have a few scars similar to that, and the're probably over a decade old. I don't think cryofreeze necessarily messes with healing. I think it's more likely Bucky didn't have (enough) serum in him at the time of amputation, so his bod just healed a major trauma...somewhat badly.

I love all the different theories about why he still has scars on his shoulder. I've always gone for the idea that the wounds were inflicted back when he could still scar, I've also got a soft spot for the theory that his arm is constantly reinjuring him, but now I'm intrigued by your cryofreeze thing. Imagine old injuries randomly popping up sometimes because Hydra put him away wet and then cryo did its weird thing to his healing factor.

They were sweet and it killed me. :( And that kind of thing is a really nice touch in a fic of this nature; it shows us why they keep fighting through the tough parts. Anyway, re: quantities of vaseline vast enough to lubricate an orgy, I find that image pretty hilarious, and also kind of touching that Steve is so careful, and then once again I am darkly pleased that he so often can't avoid hurting Bucky anyway. Trash!
