AKA the seamy sexual-violence-and-violent-sex underbelly of Captain America fandom, AKA the Hydra Trash Party kinkmeme. As usual, BLANKET NON-CON AND NSFW WARNINGS apply: just assume going in that everything in this landfill is unfit for human consumption.

In short: Bucky can't bear to be touched. At all. But after decades of isolation he's also desperate for physical affection, so this is a huge problem.

I'm thinking that even in Hydra's care, the Winter Soldier already couldn't tolerate touch. (Maybe a leftover of the torture it took to break Bucky, embedded in his muscle memory.) This was an obstacle for Hydra in three arenas, and so they conditioned Bucky to force himself to put up with touch during:
- combat
- torture/medical treatment/experimentation
- rape

So now, post-Hydra, even as Bucky starves for simple human contact, the only way he can get into the headspace to transcend his crippling touch aversion is to be beaten, tortured, or violently fucked out of his mind.

+ Steve/Bucky
+ Bucky's so hungry for touch that he wants to be hurt way more often than is emotionally or physically safe -- not to mention, more often than Steve can handle doling it out
+ shit happens like: something upsets Bucky, when he initiates one of their sessions Steve assumes it means he needs the violence to work it out of his system, and instead Bucky stops halfway through and it turns out he just wanted a long hug. Just the contrast between the basic comfort Bucky's yearning for and the extreme violence it takes to get it -- that would kill me.
