Dumpster #2: ...'Cause a Hydra Trash Party don't stop

Unholy hell-miracle achieved! Welcome to Bad Guys Do Bad Things To Your Faves 2: Electric Boogaloo. AKA the seamy sexual-violence-and-violent-sex underbelly of Captain America fandom, AKA the Hydra Trash Party kinkmeme. As usual, BLANKET NON-CON AND NSFW WARNINGS apply: just assume going in that everything in this landfill is unfit for human consumption.

Rules in brief: don't be a jerk except to fictional characters, warnings for particularly fucked-up garbage are nice but not required, thou shalt not judge the trashiness of thy neighbor's kinks unless thy neighbor is trying to pass off their rotting banana peels and half-eaten pizza crusts as a healthy romantic dinner for two, off-topic comments may be chucked out of the dumpster at management's discretion, management's discretion decrees that omegaverse, soulbond AUs, D/s-verse, non-superpowered AUs, and dark!good guys AUs are off-topic.

[Round 1] [Fill post] [Chatter post] [hydratrashmeme Pinboard archive (maintained by [personal profile] greenkirtle)] [Round 2 in flat view (comments in non-threaded chronological order, most recent last)]

Round 2 is closed; comments and fills in existing threads are still welcome, but all new prompts go to Round 3.

And just to add to this, this Tony could be written quite sympathetically too. He feels like he's making the hard choices, but he also feels like an asshole, he knows if Bucky's telling the truth that this is hard on him, but he can't not be suspicious. And Tony is often an asshole by accident! He's a lot worse when he's conflicted and under stress and Bucky could take the brunt of this.

Idk if its plausible that he and Pepper could break up after this, they've been through a lot, but certainly I can see them arguing. Esp since if Tony's paranoid and stressed, Pepper will also have a lot to deal with

(Nonnie above on the thread)

All this is essentially what I meant by telling this isn't a evil!Tony prompt. Prompter isn't asking for a darker Tony version than canon, they are asking for Tony acting like that because believing Bucky is faking/the evil one. (The way AIRT upthread overreacted makes me think of infamous Tony Stan, though, I didn't expect them on HTM meme.)

BTW, I just wanted to add, prompter isn't asking for *fanon* Tony who's always the best of all, the good guy who never is proven wrong. I can picture Tony in this prompt quite alike to AOU!Tony as nonnie above told.

1) Don't call me a Tony Stan.

2) We're allowed to ask for the Trashmod's verdict on prompts veering into dark!good guy AUs, that's not overreacting.

Um, hi! I'm the OP and I'd just like to try and straighten this out. Sorry if anyone felt like this verged into dark!Tony territory, but here's what I was thinking when I posted this:

The scene in the first Avengers movie, where Tony and Steve are arguing? Tony says something along the lines of "everything good about you came out of a bottle." So Tony definitely has the capacity to say harsh things when he's feeling threatened. Now, imagine that it had been Bucky there, not Steve. Tony would be acting COMPLETELY in character, but because if Bucky's mental state, he wouldn't have been able to shrug off a comment like that.

Also (and thank you to above nonnie who explained this extremely well), Tony views Bucky as a threat. This is literally an assassin trying to worm his way closer to Tony's friends (as Tony sees it). As per AOU, we know Tony will do absolutely anything he thinks is necessary to protect people, even if nobody agrees with his tactics.

I'm not suggesting that Tony attacks, maims, or in other way physically hurts Bucky. I was asking for a Tony who is rude and spiteful (as he often is), which then interferes with Buck's recovery. And then after trash past is revealed, Tony realizes the error of his ways and apologizes profusely to Bucky, because he made a mistake and he knows that.

I hope that cleared things up a bit!

Not OP but also isn't it a pretty popular theory that the conflict of CA:Civil War will be sparked by a disagreement over how to handle Bucky? (or SHIELD?) So this prompt might even be a nicer version of Tony than what we might eventually see in canon...

(and sorry I don't mean to dog pile on the anon upthread, you totally have the right to appeal to the mod for a judgement, this is just an interesting prompt to me)

So you don't want dark!Tony just generic Bucky recovery fic that's really All About Tony?

That's not trash or HYDRA trash, you've got the wrong meme. Try avengerkink.

(OP) I think you're misunderstanding the prompt, nonnie. I don't want dark!Tony, I want normal Tony who is suspicious of Bucky. But Bucky is struggling with a trash past, so Tony isn't making things any easier. Bucky is having flashbacks, keeps thinking people will want to use him *that* way, and Tony may be saying things like "too bad all those people died when you were busy being HYDRA's lapdog!" So he's compounding Bucky's feelings of guilt and shame. Then trash past comes out! This is very important, because I want the focus to be on Tony realizing he was wrong, being face to face with all the torture and rape Bucky was put through. He apologizes, etc. maybe they're even best bros by the end of everything

I said you didn't want dark!Tony. I just pointed out that what you're asking for is another thing that's not permitted under the rules: https://hydratrashmeme.dreamwidth.org/427.html

Under item 4: "A non-exhaustive list of gray areas: aftermath/recovery prompts (fine if heavily focused on past badwrong), appearances from other Marvel characters (fine as cameos if the main focus is on a Cap character, not fine as a backdoor for Tony Stark/Loki/Grant Ward/etc to steal the show)"

Your prompt is about Tony. ALL about Tony. It's Tony being mean. Tony being suspicious. Tony doubting another character. TonyTonyTonyTony. The only reason trash gets a mention is as a reason to make Tony feel bad for behaving like a douche.

Your prompt has nothing to do with HYDRA. It has nothing to do with trash.

I'll concede that it isn't dark!Tony now you've knocked the rough edges off, but Tony isn't in CA:TWS and as such he should only be treated as a cameo/additional character. This prompt doesn't treat Tony as a cameo/additional character, it's all about the STARKFEELS. And that's why it doesn't go here.

I see where you're coming from, but I still have to respectfully disagree, because I am not wanting the "stark feels". I'm wanting the Bucky feels, and how Bucky deals with someone who clearly does not believe his story of abuse. An example scene:

Steve is trying to help Bucky to relearn something (how to say he's uncomfortable w/a situation, for example). Bucky is doing really well, and says he doesn't like it when Thor uses his loud voice (or something, whatever). Steve is thrilled of course, praising Bucky, and then across the room Tony makes some comment like "great Steve, maybe soon he'll be able to tie his shoes without shooting someone too." Tony leaves the room, but Bucky is trembling and ashamed because now his progress seems like nothing.

The focus of this scene is still on Bucky, not Tony. Tony is a character, yes, but just because he has a role to play does not make him the main character of the story

the real problem with this prompt: why wouldn't Steve beat Tony up D: D: D:

(the tone of this thread is a little on edge, so I'll clarify I'm just joking!)

Another anon chiming in. First off, item four isn't even about hard no's, it says gray areas? And second, this prompt could be done in a you-don't-even-go-here way (all about Tony), but the angle described in the OP's elaboration sounds trashy as hell to me: all about Bucky, who should be recovering in a supportive environment, having his trash trauma ignored, denied, belittled, and compounded, making his suffering ever the worse. We've had countless prompts where trash past + present trauma + interpersonal problems = hot garbage. As long as the focus is on Bucky's shame, self-blaming, and other classics of the emotional puttanesca we devour here, I'm not sure why this wouldn't fly.

I await the mod verdict, but I will say I'd be interesting in reading a fill for this! I really like fic that examines a character through the lens of another character's perspective, and I'm always here for Bucky Barnes getting repeatedly kicked right in the trauma.

tbh why is this even such a big deal?? if you don't want to read trash with tony involved then don't?

Uh, nobody complains when it's Bucky recovery fic that's all about Steve.

That might be because Steve is in the movie and within the purview of this meme.
