Rules in brief: don't be a jerk except to fictional characters, warnings for particularly fucked-up garbage are nice but not required, thou shalt not judge the trashiness of thy neighbor's kinks unless thy neighbor is trying to pass off their rotting banana peels and half-eaten pizza crusts as a healthy romantic dinner for two, off-topic comments may be chucked out of the dumpster at management's discretion, management's discretion decrees that omegaverse, soulbond AUs, D/s-verse, non-superpowered AUs, and dark!good guys AUs are off-topic.

This cracked me up!

Although I think Westfahl would actually manage to shift the blame for his fuck-up on someone else, because Westfahl. So not only does newbie get a date with the Winter Soldier, it's not even their fault the mission failed. So unfair. Too bad the Winter Soldier doesn't care.

okay i'm gonna sound stupid but here goes: i've gotten to know a bunch of the strike team from the trash meme, but googling only tells me about rumlow and rollins. where do westfahl and mercer and the rest come from?

Not stupid at all! The HYDRA OCs were created by people here on the HTP because we needed named STRIKE characters to do horrible things to Bucky.

So my original thought was just Westfahl fucking up, like ya do, but now I much prefer that he manages to shift the blame onto "the new guy" who is not actually new anymore, but just the most recent. The point is, New Guy knows what's up with being the asset's reward but he ALSO knows that if he tries to talk his way out of it with Rumlow, his punishment for snitching will be way, wayyyyy worse... so he spends the night muttering, "Dammit, Westfahl," angrily under his breath as he begrudgingly submits to the soldier's, erm, affections.

I imagine the Soldier's just as pleased to have one toy as another, but somewhere in his head he has a little Steve Voice kicking around saying it's just not fair to punish one man for another's mistakes... so on the next mission the Soldier purposely makes Westfahl screw up so that he can have him. If you asked the Soldier, though, he wouldn't be able to explain to you why he made that choice, he just did, like it was programming.

The soldier interpreting things he learned as a child from/with Steve as programming is my Achilles' heel.

ALSO, now that you guys mentioned Westfahl and the others, BONUS points if Isaac Murphy is the newbie Westfahl screws over, because I love Isaac Murphy.
Also, the asset being all feral but gentle with Isaac who is shaking to pieces is apparently A Thing for me.
