hydratrashmeme is about as far from a safe space as you can get. Garbage we like: noncon, whump, aftermath, violence, mind control, inappropriate uses of Bucky Barnes' metal arm, bad guys doing dirtybadwrong things to your faves. Garbage you should find a different trashcan for: a/b/o, D/s-verse, soulbonds, mundane AUs, OOC evil!good guys doing dirtybadwrong things to your faves, rotting leftovers dressed up as a romantic gourmet meal. Nothing wrong with 'em, but this isn't the crowd you should be pitching to if you're trying to sell Brock Rumlow as anything but a human dumpster fire.

The Asset leans back into the steady hand. Boneless in the face of that assurance. Handler Rogers steps forward and lets it rest a sticky back against his chest.

That visual is just stunning, not to mention heartbreaking. Thanks for this newest part!

I was worried that I didn't get it right. It felt a bit too clumsily written to me, but thank you.

The one sure way of calming the Asset down is to make it feel useful because Steve knows it thinks that if it is in use then Handler Rogers will keep it, which Steve has figured out is the only thing the Asset is comfortable with admitting to "want" at the moment, to itself at least.

Steve hopes that by carefully supplying positive reenforcement to the idea of "wanting", the Asset will open up to the possibility of "wanting" other things. Whatever those things will end up being Steve intends to accommodate the Asset as much as possible to let it see that it can have agency, and from there hopefully become its own person.

But that is all long-term plans. Until then, Handler Rogers is going to continue to be the best handler the Asset has ever had.
