Garbage you should find a different trashcan for: a/b/o, D/s-verse, soulbonds, mundane AUs, OOC evil!good guys doing dirtybadwrong things to your faves, rotting leftovers dressed up as a romantic gourmet meal. Nothing wrong with 'em, but this isn't the crowd you should be pitching to if you're trying to sell Brock Rumlow as anything but a human dumpster fire.

okay it is later and I've been legit thinking about this all week. I love how frickin' STEVE Steve sounds. The upstanding ethics that is grounded on personal experience, specifically in staring bad personal experience in the face and saying "no, fuck you, I *will* be better." I want to give Sarah Rogers a big hug for teaching her son right, and you, aa, an even bigger one for writing such an inspirational Steve. Steve is stripped down to his core here and he is still so Good.

And also, I love the subtlety of the conversation here -- at first, I thought Steve was hallucinating Bucky but after reading it I was like "wait... Steve transitioned from talking about the past straight into "you smell like sex, did they hurt you", which means... Steve firmly believes that Jimmy is his Bucky. He's just finally being honest about his beliefs." Which just hurts me even more.

God I want to swathe these two boys in blankets.

I'm not sure I want to admit how many times I've reread this comment. It just really surprised me and means a lot to me. Thank you. That's just such an awesome takeaway, and sort of unreal that it left such an impression that you kept thinking about it and even came back to tell me? I have a lot of feelings about Steve's ethics and how Sarah Rogers fits into that. I know it starts off sounding like it's going to be a trashpast reveal, but it's really an insight into Steve's mind and a reference point for the Soldier. He's talking about dark things, but from his perspective, there's a positive takeaway from all of them. They're all lessons. And with Steve where he is, it seemed like the time to finally show his side of things and what's going through his head. And that's what keeps him going despite it all.

And yes! That's exactly what I was going for, and it's so cool that it came across. Steve's definitely more aware than he appears and just saying to hell with appearances, but the Soldier just assumes that he's hallucinating.
