When I came up with the prompt I was actually thinking about how I loved Bucky being on top and in control and feeling safe while fucking Steve and how lovely it was that they could work out a compromise for him to both feel safe and feel good and then my brain was like, BUT WHAT IF

In short: Bucky can't bear to be touched. At all. But after decades of isolation he's also desperate for physical affection, so this is a huge problem.

I'm thinking that even in Hydra's care, the Winter Soldier already couldn't tolerate touch. (Maybe a leftover of the torture it took to break Bucky, embedded in his muscle memory.) This was an obstacle for Hydra in three arenas, and so they conditioned Bucky to force himself to put up with touch during:
- combat
- torture/medical treatment/experimentation
- rape

So now, post-Hydra, even as Bucky starves for simple human contact, the only way he can get into the headspace to transcend his crippling touch aversion is to be beaten, tortured, or violently fucked out of his mind.

+ shit happens like: something upsets Bucky, when he initiates one of their sessions Steve assumes it means he needs the violence to work it out of his system, and instead Bucky stops halfway through and it turns out he just wanted a long hug. Just the contrast between the basic comfort Bucky's yearning for and the extreme violence it takes to get it -- that would kill me.

A few months after Bucky comes in, a masked, unidentifiable perpetrator rapes him in his own home.

Think not only about Bucky's shattered sense of safety, but also his escalating paranoia. Who was it? Could it have been random? Could it have been Hydra? Why would anyone break into his apartment/the Tower/the Avengers facility just to rape him, and not try to steal anything (including Bucky himself)? Could this have been someone Bucky knows? Someone he trusts? At least it can't have been Steve, though. ...Surely. Probably. Right?

Unless anyone comes up with a better ending, I'd prefer the attacker's identity not to be revealed; it's more about Bucky's uncertainty and terror slowly destroying his relationships with everyone around him. :D

mmmm this was absolutely beautiful and the character dynamics were flawless. Throughout the rest of the fic you did a wonderful job illustrating what a caring, conscientious, supportive parent Bucky is, and it's not like that went away in this last installment, but I like that you shifted the spotlight onto the Three Dads dynamics. They are incredibly sweet, and it hurt in a cathartic kind of way to finally see Bucky let himself fall apart once Sam and Steve were there to catch him; they're his pillars, so he can be the pillar for Teddy. Some of my favorite details are the way they bugged Steve's shield for Bucky; that they knew Bucky would bolt and were just willing to follow him; the cry-and-cuddle session on the bed! And that Bucky felt safe enough to just be wounded! So much intimacy and support. You portrayed with integrity and depth just how all these people are important in the family, how they hold each other up.

And of course I have to mention how fucking cute Teddy was making sure everyone said I love you. :/ I have like 20% more sugar in my body after reading this.

I loved all of this, and above all I love your Bucky, who is so loving, and who is still damaged but manages to figure out ways to be exactly who he needs to be for his kid. myemotions.gif

I'm sad this is (really) over, but it was amazing; thank you so much for the great fill! I'm excited to read the prequel when it comes out.

1. At some point pre-war, Bucky was raped: maybe once, maybe by a gang, maybe repeatedly by someone who had power over him. He never told anyone, and he spent years blaming himself, letting it eat him up from the inside.

2. Post-Winter Soldier, Bucky and Steve begin a romantic relationship, and Steve guesses Bucky has been raped. And the truth is Hydra didn't sexually abuse him, but Bucky just... goes with it, and instead tells the story of his pre-war rape as though it had been perpetrated during his captivity. Then he eats up all the reassurances that it wasn't his fault, he didn't know he could fight back, etc.

The problem is that despite how much Bucky needs these reassurances, he believes that Steve is only exculpating him because he thinks Hydra did it; Bucky fears that if Steve knew the truth, that no brainwashing or torture was involved, he'd blame Bucky just as much as Bucky blames himself. But he can't stop talking about it and he can't stop lying, because it feels SO GOOD to finally be told it wasn't his fault. And then it feels worse because he doesn't deserve to feel good -- and so it goes.

3. self-hatred. pain. drama

+ if Steve is part of the reason Bucky blames himself. Like he saw something and misinterpreted it; what was really evidence of the rape, Steve understands as Bucky having been out drinking with/buddying up to/having consensual sex with some bully. So he makes a snide remark and forgets about it. Only Bucky doesn't know that Steve misunderstood what he saw. Or something!

+ if Bucky confesses but along the lines of "I lied, Hydra never raped me" so Steve is angry and STILL doesn't understand

First off, kudos to the author of "Drinking Games" for tearing my heart into pieces :( this prompt is totally inspired by that fic and all the pain it caused me.

I'd like to see a take on suicidal!Bucky where Bucky tries to kill himself, and comes very very close to succeeding, but is ultimately saved. I want all the pain of Bucky being there in the aftermath, having to live with his own agony and be the target of Steve's. Other than that, I'm not picky. Was Bucky at a moment of crisis and he feels better now that he's survived? Is he just numb now, but he knows he could feel suicidal again? Was he not entirely in control of himself, and now he doesn't want to die but he could have an episode anytime? Is he insistent that he has to kill himself, and he's going to do it the moment he escapes the supersoldier-strength cuffs Steve has on him?

(OP) I would absolutely be fine with any and all of the above!!! Tbh that sounds even angstier and trashier than my original prompt which means it sounds significantly better! Give me your filth nonny ;)

Steve and Bucky reunite after the events of Captain America 2. Bucky is still very cold, silent and distant and Steve begins dropping him off at therapy led by Sam, his newest best friend.

Sam does everything he can to help the quiet broken person that was formerly the Winter Soldier. However one day during a particularly intense session, Bucky goes into Winter Soldier mode and violently rapes Sam. Steve is the one who catches Bucky and manages to save Sam before "The Asset" deals him a fatal blow. Thus Steve finds himself torn between trying to save James Barnes, a man who might no longer exist.

It's amazing how a filthy dumpster like this can produce such wonderful sweetness. I've loved this entire fill, but oh man, I just loved the fuller picture of the family dynamic you've painted here with Steve and Sam being home. I'm so invested in them now and I will be eagerly anticipating the prequel! If I tried quoting back all the things I loved we'd be here all day, but a few of the high points: Steve and Sam bugging Steve's shield so Bucky could listen to Teddy while he had his breakdown in his room, Teddy curling up with the shield and recognizing the vibranium in his sleep, Steve and Sam knowing what Bucky would need and just being there for him, and the way Bucky forced himself to stay strong for Teddy but let it happen once Steve and Sam were there to give him their strength. And that closing bit with Teddy bossing his daddies around about saying goodnights and I love you's, omg. Just adorable. <3

That night, sleeping on the thin pallet they’d brought him, Bucky dreamt of Steve Rogers. His face swam above Bucky, hazy as it had been in Zola’s lab. “What have they done to you?” Steve touched his fingers to the bandages obscuring the stump of Bucky’s left arm. “Come on, let’s get you out of here.”

Bucky tried to follow, but Steve kept disappearing around corners in the labyrinth of corridors that made up the facility. Finally, Bucky jogged after him into a familiar white-tiled room. Steve, 98 pounds and bleeding from a split lip, stood surrounded by a dozen soldiers in full Hydra battle gear, faces invisible behind their helmets. He raised his fists and lunged at a soldier, who disappeared into a column of smoke, like a desert mirage. Steve whirled, looking for another target. As he charged, one of the Hydra soldiers sticks out a leg to trip him, and he went sprawling onto the hard ground with a pained grunt, face-first into the tile, the way Bucky spent so many hours.

“Aren’t you going to help him?”

Bucky turned to see Steve, a hundred pounds heavier and thick with muscle, leaning against the wall with his arms crossed over his chest. “I thought you’d at least try.” Steve nodded towards Bucky, who looked down to see the painted shield strapped to his arm. “Was I wrong about you?”

Bucky tried to lift the shield, but instead it slid off his arm and fell away, down into a snowy abyss that seemed to stretch forever.

Bucky jolted awake, sweating, with his heart jumping wildly in his chest. For once, he was thankful for the total darkness that hid him while he sat with his knees to his chest and arm wrapped around his knees.

While he waited for the guards to come for him, he imagined what Steve would have done if he were in this cell. Never mind the fact that he probably would have already broken himself out, along with anyone else being held in this godforsaken place. Steve certainly wouldn’t have let Müller talk him into trading his dignity for relief from pain. He would have held out.

Bucky could do that. Surrendering once didn’t mean he’d given up entirely. He would fight, he decided. He would show them what he was made of.

Müller sighed when they dragged Bucky in, already struggling. “I am disappointed. I thought we had moved past this, Sergeant Barnes.”

Bucky didn’t bother throwing back a smart answer, though he felt sure he could have come up with one, if he’d tried. Instead, he held tight to his anger. If he could summon up half the righteous rage of Steve Rogers starting a fight in a Brooklyn back alley, he could take everything they threw at him.

He squirmed in the guards’ grip so viciously that two men had to pin him down to hold him still enough for the third man to shove his dick in. It hurt, just the same as it had the first time. The pain helped him sustain that tiny spark of defiance he’d kindled from the memory of Steve.

So Hydra notices and they try testing this. Maybe they have the guy play along with it, etc to see how far it can go. Like will he do things for this "Steve?" The next time Bucky wakes up, ta da! There's another Steve. Maybe Zola or the Russians noticed this so it went into the asset's "guide" on how to handle him: The Asset Must Always Have a Steve. He probably doesn't even remember who Steve is. He just knows that he loves Steve and he has to keep Steve safe.

I've seen this done with Pierce before, like a younger Pierce looking like Steve, but I was thinking someone not Pierce. Like a junior member of Hydra, some poor unfortunate rookie who ends up having to play the asset's boyfriend. All because he looks like Steve Rogers :) And this includes sexually pleasing the asset as reward/being locked in a room with him.

As a note, I prefer Skinny Steves and a protective WS. Maybe he'll even take orders from the Steve person, so Hydra uses this as both motivation and reward. If he does a good job doing what "Steve" tells him to do, he gets to spend time with Steve afterward.

+ It'd also be great if the actual Steve learned about this little tradition post CATWS from a former "Steve" while searching for Bucky.
