Would definitely prefer if this skewed cathartic rather than self-destructive. Prompt: Rumlow captures Steve and Bucky who are in a romantic relationship with each other. Of course Rumlow being a sadistic fuck, decides the best way to get his revenge is raping Bucky in front of Steve to break their spirits. The kicker: It doesn’t go as planned. Bucky is mortified at first but then Steve starts “ignoring” Rumlow and what he’s doing and tells Bucky that nothing could ever change how much he loves him instead, basically talking his boyfriend through it. I just want stubborn Steve defying Rumlow instead of pleading and crying as expected and Bucky going from deeply ashamed and afraid to feeling supported despite what’s happening to him. It definitely ruins the experience for Rumlow while his victims manage to strengthen their bond through the trauma.

Bonus points: Bucky was always afraid Steve would judge him if he learned every trash past detail (shutting him down with “you weren’t there” when Steve expressed sympathy in the past maybe), especially about him getting aroused during the rapes but when Steve notices/ Rumlow draws attention to it this time Steve gives a big speech on how it’s not Bucky’s fault/ it’s just a physical reaction...

Wakanda is a known as a country of good and generous people but not everyone is happy with the king’s decision to let a foreigner stay on their sacred land. A group of warriors goes digging for dirt on the White Wolf to discredit him and finds trash.

Cue:
- the group confronts Bucky with it and shames him for his past (maybe they comment on his looks, call him a half-woman who's asking for it and bully him or something)
- they demand sexual acts as payment for his stay in Wakanda
- Bucky doesn't want to leave because he cherishes the life he built there and needs Shuri’s treatment to get better
- having the self-worth of a new born baby, Bucky also feels like he owes them somehow
- he accepts and lets the Wakandan’s do whatever they want with him
- it doesn't stop there, the group comes back regularly, basically treating Bucky like a prostitute they can visit when they're in the mood
- someone else notices the frequent visits but believes Bucky enjoys spending time with them or is consenting to sex to reclaim his sexuality and congratulates him on it
- Bucky regrets that his sexual servitude ruins his peace in Wakanda but still feels like he earned it for his crimes and it's all he's good for
- someone else notices how wrong the whole “arrangement” really is and gets the group arrested
- all Wakandan’s learn about Bucky's recent activities and his trash past in the end
- there are some consequences (like some of the children are no longer being allowed to visit him, people look at him differently) but mostly the Wakandan's are horrified that their own people would do something so vile to the gentle White Wolf

Note: I would prefer the group to be male (like your typical overconfident young group of inexperienced soldiers who want to blow off some steam) but if you want to add a female warrior in there, that's fine. I'd like to avoid racism towards the Wakandans wherever possible. They are still a great people but there must be some bad eggs, too.

Bucky developes a very specific way of self harming to cope with his trash memories. He literally freezes himself every time he’s haunted by the guilt and disgust that comes with them. Because he can’t get into a cryo pot anymore (maybe it’s gone or it would be too noticeable when he uses it) so he takes baths in a tub filled with ice cubes/ ice packs/ freezing cold water. It’s up to the filler if he does it because...

a) it reminds him of the calm and quiet of cryo
b) he used to be raped right before or after cryo and does it purely as a punishment to take himself back there
c) the memories get him hard and that shameful boner needs to go down fast before it makes him sick

This is like my third prompt this week. Forgive me for flooding the trash board. I'm just inspired.

In order to form Bucky into the Winter Soldier, Hydra doesn't only teach him the loss of bodily autonomy - they also make him associate choice and voicing anything that even remotely resembles an opinion with pain. Every time Bucky gets tortured, they give him a choice between two bad alternatives: Getting beat with fists or getting kicked in the stomach, getting whipped with a cane or a bullwhip, getting raped by one or two men, and so on. Whatever choice Bucky makes, Hydra makes sure that it's always the wrong one. They twist their words around, treat him more horribly than he could have imagined, and then insist that he's the one who asked for it in the first place.
After a while Bucky starts to doubt himself so much that he asks others to chose for him and then stops giving his opinion entirely. When he's finally free from Hydra, he still struggles with basic decision making and relies on others to guide him.
I hope this last bit is not wandering too close to bad guy territory:
Bucky finally gets so angry about everything he went through and how much it still effects him that he goes on a revenge spree, offering his Hydra tormentors a choice between different ways to die before he kills them (or maybe he just makes them believe they're about to die and releases them after the choice is made - that's fine, too)

Just minutes later, Natasha was sitting in her chair in the quinjet, listening to the pleasant hum of the engine. She had reached the level of fatigue where she was feeling comfortably numb. She was slouching in a rather unladylike way, and she did not care. She had been hurt – though her entire body felt distant now - present but not acutely gnawing at her flesh or bones.

She was watching Bucky from the corner of her eye as she was talking to Barton about nothing much in particular. He was making small talk as he bandaged her leg and dabbed the bruise her forehead. He gave her updates on his family, on occasion. She liked that, that he kept her informed even on the minor things. Made her feel like a real auntie, like part of a family she never had.

She could spot Bucky’s nervousness, though, and Clint story’s about Nathaniel’s teething issues couldn’t quite distract her from that.

Steve approached Bucky, and Natasha couldn’t quite make out what was being said – she only saw Steve reach out for Bucky’s wounded leg, an Bucky shake his head and mumble something. She wondered if she should get up and save the day, but in the end, he needed to learn to do this on his own. Minutes later, Steve moved back to his seat, and it seemed no disasters had happened without her intervention.

“So, it’s totally not suspicious you didn’t want a medic,” Natasha quipped, maybe an hour later, when she walked into the medical wing of the Avengers tower uninvited.
Bucky was reclined on a cot, wearing only a t-shirt and shorts, his armor and bloodied trousers cast aside. He was trying to squirt some disinfectant on cotton wool. The movement seemed difficult with the metal fingers. Maybe the action was just a little too delicate for the purpose they were created for. Or maybe he was just upset.

He’d gotten rid of the others by saying he’d rather patch himself up, but Natasha was done with this little act – tired and done – and she wanted to make sure he wasn’t ignoring major injuries because of shame.

Steve and Sam had had gone out for food, and the rest were either napping our lounging, recovering from the fight. They had as much privacy as they could hope for.

Bucky shrugged at her, unsurprised by her presence. “Last time I had a physical, I had a hard-on. Fun times. I’m sure I can blame dislike of doctors on trauma. A boner might be harder to explain.”

Natasha sighed, too tired and annoyed to argue the issue.
“Here, let’s get you fixed up,” she said as she appropriated the first aid kit and took out some bandage. She then poured the disinfectant on a sterile pad, and looked at the damage. It was mostly just bad chafing, really. Some of the skin had broken as he’d been dragged, but it was only superficial damage. Nothing supersoldier healing couldn’t take care of. Still, she carefully dabbed the wound. He didn’t even flinch.

“I meant what I said,” Barnes said, staring right at her. You should still do the other punishment.

She rolled out the clean bandage, and started wrapping it around his upper leg. “Your first mission went well. I’m not entirely sure it’s even necessary.”

“Natasha,” he said. “I looked at you through a sniper rifle and thought about how easy it would be to kill you.”

That got her attention. She stopped wrapping his leg, but did not remove her hands, not moving. She looked at him with piercing eyes, trying to figure out what was going on in that head of his. When she was sure there was no escalation following, she quickly secured the bandage and moved a few inches away.

“Just for a second,” he added, “but that’s a second too long. I never did with a handler, no matter how much I hated them. I was well trained”.

She was starting to get annoyed with that. “Barnes, I’m not your….”

Bucky moved, quickly as he was prone to. Natasha backed away, expecting an attack. Instead, he slumped and kneeled in front of her. He looked up at her candidly, meeting her eyes. “You are not my handler, I know, Mistress. But you can help me. Please help me.”

Then he cast down his eyes, bowed his head, and held his hands in front of him in supplication.

“Christ, Barnes, not here,” she hissed under her breath. I haven’t checked this place for bugs or camera’s, she wanted to add, but realized saying it our loud would make it worse.

“Fine,” he hissed as he got back to his feet. “ But I don’t want to feel that way about you, not just for…this thing we do, but as a person”.

“But you’re saying you do feel that way, and you should be allowed to. If you’re saying that p… something could change that, then it’s not real.

He looked defeated. Tired. All he could manage was another shrug. “What is even real, Natasha? For people like us?”

She didn’t reply, her breath feeling heavy.

“Do you need help fixing up?” he asked, changing the subject as he neatly sorted thing back into the first aid pack.

“I’ll manage,” she said.

Bucky nodded, with a crooked smile. “Of course you will, Natasha. Just like I will.”

He walked out, his eyes meeting hers once more.

The hallway smelled of shawarma – but despite being hungry, she didn’t think she could swallow a single bite.

The Captain understands tactics, but he doesn't understand people. That's why he doesn't scream.

The Soldier, on the other hand, understands the importance of perceived suffering, so he screams as much as their handlers want. Cries. Writhes. While the Captain huffs his pain through his teeth as if unimpressed.

Put less generously: the Captain is stiff-necked even in slavery, because there is something their owners could not burn out of him, something the Soldier gave up to the Chair years ago.

Weakness is not without its advantages. The Soldier is much better at suffering, so when it amuses them to turn them on each other, sometimes as punishment, sometimes as reward, it is usually the Captain hurting the Soldier. The Captain's broad hands around his neck, the Captain's knee in his back, the Captain's piss in his mouth.

The Soldier would not have it any other way and it is essential that their owners never discover this. The Captain's usefulness wouldn't stay their cruelty; it never does.

Tonight: reward. The Captain oversaw the disposal of the car and its two occupants—embroidered though the plan was by their handlers' stupid stipulations. The Captain's plans are almost always successful, but he shines during extended missions—their support teams become squadrons and cities fall in a night. Even the handlers look at the Captain with something like awe when they're out in the field.

The looks change when it is time for rewards.

Tonight, the Captain must watch as the ranks take their turns. The Soldier has been thrown to the foot-soldiers—although they certainly didn't do any of the goddamn work. The Captain planned the operation and the Soldier did the grunt work.

The Captain has been ordered to drink beer and watch as they proceed.

The higher-ups are the first with the Soldier, at least those interested in breaking him in for the night. Anyone who survives HYDRA long enough gets bored of the Soldier eventually. Everyone but the Captain. Still, they get the best screams; they're the most likely to notice if he doesn't put in the effort.

The mid-level operatives follow. They take the longest: they're experienced enough to know exactly what they like from the Soldier without rushing it. This is when the injuries start to heal even as others accumulate. It's a confusing kind of pain: the feeling of bones mending is no good for his focus tonight. They're starting to test his stamina. What's worse, they crowd him so he can't watch the Captain.

Now, he's dealing with the least of them. Some of them have never even gotten their hands on the Soldier before and go off like teenage boys. They're nothing. His biggest enemy here is time.

The Captain will go last.

The Soldier chokes on the cock in his mouth because it'll hurry the man along, and the shudder lets him see the Captain, just for a moment. There's another behind him, in him, but the Soldier's in so much pain at this point that it barely registers. Blunt fingernails scrabble at his hips as he risks another shudder, another split-second look at the Captain, who watches him with a beautiful, blank face.

It is tempting, sometimes to look at the Captain's impassive face and imagine that he does not care about the Soldier's suffering. That it does not pain him. But the Soldier knows it does. On long operations, the agents who enjoy the Soldier's dramatics the most are the ones that disappear, sooner or later.

Even handlers and those above them are not fully immune to the Captain's displeasure. There was a coup that killed off a commander who liked to torture the Soldier, who kept him out of the field. The Captain left the commander to the mercy of men eager to prove their devotion to his usurper. It took days.

The current commander is much more interested in consolidating HYDRA's grip on the world than torturing the Soldier. He consults with the Captain, keeps him out of the ice to provide his expertise.

It is a strange thought that the Captain's slow, patient justice has made HYDRA a more effective force in the world. The exact reason behind its strangeness is not entirely clear. Like the Captain's rare mercy, its provenance is unknown.

Sometimes they give him to the Captain to use alone. The experience is not that much less violent, but one man's abuse—even if that one man is the Captain—can't compare to the endless evenings. The Captain only demonstrates kindness when it cannot be seen. And when isn't someone watching?

Nights like this one have been rarer recently. This time the gagging is real as the operative shudders into his mouth. That sets off the other—perhaps they're friends? Not that it matters—and soon the Soldier collapses on the floor. Drool and cum leak out of him, and he gargles something in the very back of his throat that's gummed by the accumulation of mucus. The real orders were casually dropped much earlier. The handler that waved the Captain to his reward didn't even stay to watch the orders carried out.

If the Soldier had to guess, he'd suspect that handler isn't going to live much longer. The likeliest replacement grew up following the Captain—ageless warrior, angry god—and treats him like it.

The Captain's boots are heavy on the floor before he rolls the Soldier flat on his back with the tip of a tread. It's the gentlest he'll be with an audience. The Soldier's gaze swims as he tries to look up at the Captain. He's a blur of black and red.

He won't have to act for the Captain. Never could.

From the interaction with Secretary Pierce, how he has to cajole the Soldier into cooperating and following orders by telling him that his country needs him and that he's one of the good guys, it's clear that Bucky's core values and probably a fair bit of his personality are still intact. Also, we are given only a limited view of the flashbacks Bucky experiences, but he seems to have a lot of pieces of memory, they're just not connected in a coherent fashion. So, what happens if he has a ton of trash memories that get scrambled in with everything else? How does he handle those while held by the perpetrators of the trash, especially if he is constantly remembering bits and pieces out of order and without context? How does he handle them once he is free of Hydra and able to start reassembling the memories and understanding them? Does he know that these are real memories at all?

This idea is similar to an extreme version of the phenomenon of intrusive thoughts (https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/am-i-normal/201110/intrusive-thoughts-normal-or-not). Intrusive thoughts are a completely normal part of how the brain functions, but when misunderstood, they can be disturbing or terrifying. I see Bucky here as living with a constant stream of mental chatter similar to intrusive thoughts, except instead of his brain coughing up violent or disturbing hypotheticals, everything his brain is presenting to him actually happened.

Addendum from OP: What if Hydra doesn't know that Bucky's memories aren't actually being erased? What if they think The Chair is fully erasing his memories? How could they tell the difference, really? They wipe him, then ask him questions to see if he remembers events or information from before the wipe, and Bucky's memories are fragmented and scrambled, so he can't piece together answers to their questions, and they incorrectly conclude that the memories are completely gone. What happens, then, if Hydra realizes that Bucky's memories aren't being erased?

A children’s game where the players must stay quiet for as long as possible. The last child or team to make noise wins the game. It is usually acceptable for players to make sounds they cannot control.

In retrospect, Bucky should have known something was off before he stepped out of his hut in nothing but a red Shuka and a pair of worn-out leather sandals.

Steve had told him he wasn't coming for another day at least but when he'd heard (what he foolishly assumed) was the soft whirring of the quinjet’s motor and the children's happy cries at the prospect of being reunited with Captain America, he'd thrown all caution in the wind.

He should have known better - but he didn't.

Bucky stepped outside with an easy smile on his face, his body relaxed and sluggish from a few hours of midday nap. He blinked once, holding up his remaining flesh hand to shield his eyes from the setting sun, and froze.

Four men were standing in the middle of his front yard. Their thick ballistic vests and combat boots in jet-black a stark contrast against the earthly colors of the Wakandan countryside. They replaced the ever-present vivacity of the land, the warmth of wood, and soil, and sun-burned grass, with a feeling of all-encompassing dread. Ugly and inappropriate in the burning heat.

The children, a group of local youngsters between the age of 6 and 11, all known to Bucky by their name, age, and a variety of personal characteristics which he had given them silly nicknames for in his head, stood around them curiously, laughing and pointing at the men’s hair, their clothes, and their heavy gear.

Bucky stomach dropped. Maybe he should have grabbed a weapon to fight, to attack them immediately but he was frozen, looking at the seemingly peaceful scene before him with despair.

The kids didn’t seem concerned by the firearms and strange outfits the intruders carried. Bucky reckoned that they had never seen armed men before in their lives, no tactical gear besides Captain America's shield and the king’s cat suit if they were lucky. Not all of them had been to the Golden City yet. They certainly had no way to identify the ugly red Hydra insignia on their vests for something dangerous neither. 

No, Bucky's little Wakandan friends didn’t know any better than to welcome every stranger they met with open hearts. They were farmers’ kids from the Mining tribe, well protected and sheltered from the effects of war and tragedy. They knew neither borders nor rules of privacy, carefree and loved by all. The Wakandans cherished their young the same way they charished their vibranium - as a gift from the gods. 

Bucky had come to embrace their natural curiosity, even when they occasionally bothered him and Steve at the wrong time. He secretly enjoyed it when they treated his house like a public playground without a lock on the door. Their laughter chased away his dreams of darkness and filled his heart with joy.

'If he fought,’ Bucky thought in a desperate rush of panic, ‘the little kids would die first.’

This can’t be happening.

“Well, well...” one of the intruders said, adressing Bucky directly. He stretched out his arms as if to embrace an old friend. “If it isn’t the famous Winter Soldier.”

Bucky stood stock-still and said nothing, discreetly eyeing their weaponry. He analyzed their positions and team dynamics, counted every second that passed and weighed his options. To formulate a game plan he needed to gather intel, and fast.

“Cat got your tongue?” The strange man asked again, clicking his teeth, and Bucky realized with a sickening lurch that he knew exactly who this was.

“Agent Ward,” Bucky acknowledged with a tight clench of his jaw.

They had history to say the least. Ward was a former handler and famous S.H.I.E.L.D. infiltrator. Brock Rumlow’s best buddy from the academy. They'd been inseparable in training until a week or two before Project Inside was launched. No one knew why he’d left. Some said it was rivalry between him and Rollins, some said he’d simply been undercover too long to be reintegrated into Hydra’s great plan for the future of mass genocide. Everyone, including the Soldier, knew that Agent Ward was unpredictable and also, last Bucky had heard of him...

“I thought you were dead.”

“Well, I was, buddy.” Ward announced cheerfully. “You see, Coulsen, dear Agent Coulsen, choked the life out of me and then I became a Hydra god and... You know how it is. I don’t wanna bore you with the details.”

Bucky gave him a court nod in lieu of a safe way to clock him one. “To what do I owe the pleasure?”

As if on cue, Ward gave the others a quick four-finger-sign, ordering them stand on guard. Then he took a lazy step out of their tactical formation.

“You should have realized by now, when your boyfriend and his gang brought you back from the dead... All kinds of things followed. All kinds of people. A lot of them are still loyal to Hydra and itching to make you pay.”

It was almost funny but not quite. Bucky had feared for repercussions when he woke up an entire year and a half after the snap, resurrected like some kind of nightmare version of the Lord Jesus Christ. He'd been ready to take on the consequences head-on but when the gates of hell didn't break open and alien invasions remained a thing of the past, he'd let himself be lulled into false security by Steve's happy tears and open thighs and put his concerns to rest like an amateur. He could have done better than that. If only.

Ward becomed him forward with a waving gesture. “Come here. Give me a hug, like an old friend.”

Bucky just glared across the distance and stood his ground. He didn't move a muscle.

“I said give me a hug,” Ward ordered sharply, pronouncing every syllable. “Don’t be shy now. We don’t wanna upset the children, do we?”

Right. The children.

Bucky's eyes landed on Amwoni. The young boy's little face glowed, his eyes lifted to the men in wonder. They all knew a few words of English, enough to communicate with Steve, to get their meaning across, but it wasn’t enough to understand the intention behind the words. The underlying threat. In that moment, Bucky made a decision.

He looked to Agent Ward again.

“Alright,” Bucky said tightly, his voice wavering with a strange mix of emotions.
“Whatever you want.”

Hydra scientists decide that the way to get a beefier, more aggressive Winter Soldier is to boost his testosterone levels. They get that, but also a Winter Soldier who is MAD HORNY.
