Back in the 50s-60s, HYDRA is having an increasingly hard time controlling the Winter Soldier. The mind-wiping technology is still in its early stages and its precision is more like a hacksaw than a scalpel. Rather than risk permanently damaging the Soldier, they think that perhaps they can control him better by providing a Captain America for the Soldier to imprint on. After going through all the SHIELD personnel files, a young, handsome Alexander Pierce is recruited into the project for having the closest resemblance and he puts on the uniform. Of course, it starts out simply enough where Bucky only needs Steve/Pierce's presence and basic commands, but it eventually progresses into roleplay in which Steve/Pierce starts manipulating and gaslighting Bucky into engaging in trashy, degrading sex acts while wearing the Captain America uniform.

One of the things that really gets me about surviving abuse is this feeling that the abuser has seen a side of you no one else ever will, and maybe that's the real you, and maybe that means the abuser knows you better than anyone else can. This is where this prompt is coming from.

In recovery, one of the things that Bucky has a hard time coming to terms with is all the people who saw him being degraded. So many people saw what was he was like as he got fucked, got tortured, got wiped, sucked cock, screamed, sobbed, came all over himself. The most intimate parts of his body and personality became entertainment for monsters. After being known as this abused thing, how can he be anything else? It makes him feel like his personhood is a fraud, and the real him is that humiliated victim.

I'd like anything to do with this characterization, but here are some extra ideas:

The Great Strike/Tech Prank War

Strike and Tech have branch rivalry going on, and it manifests in their treatment of the asset. To mess with the Tech Team, Strike leaves all sorts of awful presents on or in the asset so that the Techs will find them when they go to prep him for cryo. Like, they're trying to do a routine flush of his systems and his bladder won't empty because it's been pumped full of come, and the Techs have to find a way to get it out. Or they go to do a final enema to make sure he's clear and they can't because there's a number of random objects shoved up there and they have to reach in and extract them.

Tech retaliates by adding a bunch of anti-rape features to the asset, so that the next cock to reach a certain depth in his rectum triggers a high-powered electrical charge, or the next one to try to fuck his throat will discover the new spiked tonsils.

And so on. I love this prompt because we hardly ever get to see reverse!trash. It's always Bucky being degraded and abused by the STRIKE team, but in the movie they were the ones handing him weapons as soon as he held out his hand, obeying his orders, cowering in the bank vault with a dozen guns trained on him (as if that'd stop the Winter Soldier if he decided to be uncooperative) and warning Pierce in a trembling voice that the Asset is unstable and erratic.

What the subject line says, basically. Bucky never tells anyone he was raped in captivity. He figures it's none of their business. But then one of two things happens: either Steve gets captured on a mission and it's painfully obvious to everyone in the rescue party what his captors did to him, or alternately, Steve manages to hide the details of his ordeal from everybody, but Bucky eventually picks up on the clues that Steve is coping badly in the aftermath of a sexual assault. At the time of his escape, Bucky had been near the end of the process of getting his dick broken. The conditioning hadn't gotten far enough to actually physically rewire him, so he can still come however he wants. So post-TWS he seems relatively fine. Yeah, he's got some serious problems with agency and saying no and not instantly obeying what sounds like orders, but trauma recovery-wise, he seems to be doing pretty okay. Steve listens for sounds of distress outside his door at night and hears nothing. Natasha elbows him hard for drinking the last of the milk and he doesn't even flinch. Sam watches him carefully during the fireworks on the 4th of July and it looks like Sam and Steve are more afraid of the sounds than Bucky is.

Hell, when the Avengers plan to take down a big Hydra cell, Bucky volunteers to go in as a double agent and pretend to be the Asset, and he doesn't even seem concerned about it.

And no one realizes that just because he doesn't scream, doesn't mean he isn't terrified.

When the asset and Steve finally meet post-TWS, the asset (Bucky?) expects to be put to work, or into cryo, or just to be used as intended. Except Steve doesn't use it (him?), for missions, for sex, for anything. In fact, Steve seems to draw comfort from his (its) mere presence, and Bucky (the asset) isn't given a single order. And when he finally gets frustrated breaks the rules (the asset does not speak unless spoken to) and asks to be useful, Steve tries to explain how Bucky is human and humans don't have to be useful.

So the asset asks if Steve wants it to decommission itself.

Bonus: When Steve is too horrified to answer promptly, the asset mistakes his horror for uncertainty about the process (Steve doesn't seem very knowledgeable about a lot of routine procedures) and informs him that the most efficient way is a bullet to the skull, but the asset can make the process more drawn-out and painful if that's what Steve would prefer.

This excellent prompt makes me wonder which would be more horrifying:

1) The Asset doesn't want to decommission itself and tries everything to prolong the time before the inevitable point when its programming forces it to make its handler aware of the option, begging Steve to be given a mission, a task, a purpose, even if it's just as a sex toy because, even after everything that's been done to it, it still doesn't want to die.

2) The Asset is actually looking forward to being allowed to decommission itself, has been ever since the program was installed in it. It has been a quiet promise lingering in the back of its mind for seventy years that one day, one blessed day, there will be a final pull of the trigger and then no more pain or humiliation.
